Description
3 1/4″ Kero or Peruvian Ceremonial Vessel – carved in wood
This piece was carved out of wood by Peruvian artisans.
The Kero is a ceremonial container, generally made of wood, in the shape of a truncated cone, wider at the mouth than at the base, typical of various southern Andean cultures. They were also called stick drinkers, wooden vessels, and wooden chalice. It is an ancient Inca vessel for drinking liquids such as alcohol, or more specifically, chicha. They can be made of wood, stone, ceramic, silver or gold. Many represented diverse settings, such as military events, political alliances, rituals, or simple scenes from everyday life.
