Pre-Columbian and Acheulean Artifact Auction
Lot 356:
Description
4 3/8″ Ancient Dogon Stone Bracelet, also known as a tribal elbow war bracelet or bangle, from Mali, West Africa.
Hand-carved centuries ago by the Dogon people, it is made from veined quartz or granite-like hardstone, often referred to as Hombori marble. These pieces are exceptionally rare and historically significant, having served both as adornment and a form of currency. They were traditionally worn by men above the elbow and believed to provide supernatural protection during war or other dangerous activities. The natural crystalline veins give each bracelet a unique appearance.
