Description
5 1/2″ Persian Seljuk glazed terracotta oil lamp.
The lamp dates from approximately the 12th to 14th century AD and likely originates from Iran or Egypt.
It is made from red earthenware with a green lead-based glaze applied over most of the surface.
The glaze is worn in places, revealing the underlying reddish clay.
Oil lamps were widely used throughout the ancient world for lighting homes and shops.
