Description
4 1/8″ Chinese Jade Pendant, Weng Zhong, originally named Ruan Weng Zhong, was a Qin Dynasty general. Because of his imposing stature, he was ordered to guard the border. Later generations carved his image into jade ornaments, carrying them as a ward off evil. The Weng Zhong is depicted standing, wearing a crown and a slender face. His eyes and mouth are engraved in intaglio, and he sports a long beard. He wears a loose robe with wide sleeves, his hands folded at his waist, the attire of a civil official. Ex Jerry Maloney Collection, Eaton, Ohio. Jerry had a shop in Webb’s Antique Mall in Centerville, Indiana for 20 years and continued collecting and selling for another 15 years.
