Description

Vintage Native American Inspired Bolo Tie Depicting Kachina Dancer, featuring Turquoise, Onyx, Coral, and Mother of Pearl Inlays on indeterminate metal. The figure itself, the black braided leather cording, and the metal tips were possibly handcrafted by a Native American Artist in the Southwestern United States. The locking slide mechanism is hallmarked “Bennett Pat Pend” which dates this piece. The artisan would have obtained the slide mechanism and put it onto his creation, this bolo. The “Bennett” clasp is found on probably 8 out of 10 vintage bolos (if not more). Bennett did not make the bolos, as some folks often mistake, but the clasps used on their backs to secure the braided cord bore the Bennett name and were available to silversmiths. Bolo slides marked with “Bennett Pat Pend C31” were made beginning in 1957. In the mid 1960s the C-31 disappeared and the stamp was simply BENNET PAT. PEND. Clasp is Marked “Bennett Pat. Pending C31” on this piece.
