Description
THE LIGHT OF ASIA or The Great Renunciation (Mahabhinishkramana), Being the Life and Teaching of Gautama, Prince of India and Founder of Buddhism (As Told in Verse by an Indian Buddhist) by Edwin Arnold. Signed by PARKER PILLSBURY. He was a famous anti-slavery and womens rights advocate through the mid to late 1800’s. Wiki his name if you want to learn more about who he was. Parker was a close friend of Elmira Howard who gifted her this book in 1880. Also enclosed is the 6" by 4 1/4" CDV of Parker Pillsbury that was still in place with the book. The signature isnt directly to the book. It was on a sheet of paper which either Parker or Elmira glued in front of the title page. Book is in very good + Condition. Minor shelf wear to the corners. 244 pgs plus a 20 page addition at the end of the book. 7" by 5 1/8"
