THE MAGUS or CELESTIAL INTELLIGENCER 1801!! THE MAGUS or CELESTIAL INTELLIGENCER Being a Complete System of Occult Philosophy by Francis Barrett. London: Printed for Lackington, Allen, and Co., Temple of the Muses, Finsbury Square 1801. Presumed 1st Edition. Very Rare Book. A compendium of occult knowledge including sections on natural magic (amulets, charms, sorcery, conjuring, etc), alchemy, magnetism, cabalistic magic, and biographies of great historical magi and occult philosophers. Leather with Dark Red Boards and Gold Gilt on the Spine with an image of a scaled man on a winged serpent. I’m going to call its condition Very Good because of what it is and how old it is. The Cover has some scuffs and the boards have a fair amount of shelf wear. The Pages have very little foxing and it is all there with water colored illustrations. The 1800’s owner signed it on the cover page like she did on most of her books in the collection otherwise it would be free of any ink or pencil marks. 175pgs + 198pgs. 11 1/2" by 9 1/4"
